People come to see us from all walks of life.

We spend time with our patients, listening to their history, challenges and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease.  The unique expression of health is different for each individual.

September is menopause awareness month. While it may not feel like a cause for celebration – especially if you’re navigating this challenging phase – it’s a great time to embrace the change and transform your life.

Rather than write a bio about my accomplishments, I wanted to take this opportunity to just introduce myself and what I do and why…

I have been in family general practice for the last 30 years in Hawke’s Bay looking after the full spectrum of three generations: children, their parents, and their grandparents.   This has been an immensely satisfying journey and I feel grateful for having the privilege to share their life stories and help them return to health.

However, the time spent in the care of families has taught me a lot…

What to Expect?

Prior to any appointments, we will ask you to fill out a questionnaire.  This includes specific detailed information about your medical problems – when your problems started, circumstances surrounding the onset, possible genetic predispositions, lifestyle and environmental factors.  Please take the time to fill this form out as this is the first piece of your health puzzle and can help guide us towards the root cause(s) of your problems.

During this initial 90 minute appointment, we find out more about you, your health, and family history to build your in-depth health profile that lays the foundation for a comprehensive assessment.

During this 90 minute appointment with Dr Karl, your current issues and concerns will be thoroughly discussed.

Typically your treatment will start with a comprehensive holistic diagnosis of your total level of health. Taking into account your health needs and personal goals, we design a customised programme just for you.   Treatments are designed to enhance your diet, environment, physical activity, stress levels, relationships and your body’s systems of detoxification and repair.

Recommendations regarding any obvious dietary, lifestyle, and medication issues are often made at the first visit.  Both standard and specialty lab panels may be recommended. There is always plenty of time for questions and concerns to be addressed.

Over subsequent visits (which are usually about 30 minutes), your lab results will be reviewed and an individualised treatment plan will be suggested. Your progress will be regularly monitored and your health journey will be tailored and refined further to promote optimal wellbeing.

Dr Karl’s mission is to help you optimise your health and take personal control over your wellbeing using a functional, preventative approach whenever possible and to support you throughout this exciting journey.

For all new patients, we recommend an initial consultation of approximately 90 minutes. The cost of this consultation is $595*. Once the appointment is confirmed, a detailed health questionnaire is sent to you to complete before your consultation. An initial $200 non-refundable fee is payable at the time of booking, and the balance after the consult.

We recommend follow up consults as needed; these are usually 30-45 minutes, and the cost is between $250-$500 depending on the time and complexity of the health issues. Please check at front desk if you need further clarification. Consults with the nurse/naturopath are suggested when appropriate at reduced cost.

*Please note the above fees apply to residents living in NZ and Pacific Islands.  Overseas patients from outside these regions may attract different costs. Please clarify with Reception when booking appointments.

Children under 12 years may be charged a reduced fee.

Specialised lab testing (either in New Zealand or overseas) usually attracts extra fees, but routine tests are funded and free under the current New Zealand health policy.

Please note, missed appointments and any change or cancellation requested within 48 hours will incur the full cost of consultation.
